Generation ?

Alan LOVES his garden and spends many therapeutic hours working in it. I think he missed his calling in life. He would love to be a city farmer. This brings him so much happiness.
There was a lot of education and classes this year on the square foot gardening that it really took off in this area. I know it's not a new concept and we really didn't do it the right way. But what we did do is the container gardening with grow boxes. Alan actually made the boxes twice the height they normally are so we didn't have to bend over in our old age. So basically we have planted $30.00 tomato's and $20.00 zucchini's. (it would have been much cheaper to go shopping each week, for what this cost us. But where is the adventure in that?) Hopefully it is just a one time investment that will last for many, many years of weed free gardening and bumper crop produce.

Which brings me to this little guy. Sitting here on the ground amidst grow boxes (where the plants are suppose to be). Is a plant with a mind and breed of it's own. When Alan first discovered it he decided to let it grow and see what would become of it. In that same spot last year (before the grow boxes) we had zucchini, squash and pumpkin. The zucchini and the yellow squash did really well. The pumpkin went wild as well, but just as it neared time for Halloween, thousands of beetle looking bugs showed up and sucked the life out of them. So we didn't have much when it came time to carve. Actually we ended up buying some at Wal Mart:(

So what kind of plant is it we ask ourselves?

This is what some of our produce look like this year. Pretty normal for squash and zucchini don't you think?!

You have heard of Generation X and Generation Y. So WHAT in the world is THIS? Cause we certainly don't know. This is what we are picking off the plant on the ground. Maybe a cross between yellow squash (because of the color) and pumpkin (because of the shape). Then Alan brought in another one tonight that looked like these but was green (like zucchini).

So what do I do with it. Carve it or Cook it?

Or enter it in the County fair (under freakish phenomenons).

I think it has cross bred itself into a new kind of vegetable. Any ideas? I'm afraid to cut it open.

I am obviously NOT the person to be trying to guess what type of vegetable something is. But I'd be afraid to open it to. : )
You guys are amazing! An example to us all.

HAHAHAHAHA loved the post, I think we should try to cook it, even if it's more like a pumpkin people eat pumpkin right?
